Chelsea matchwinner Werner grateful Tuchel has kept backing him

Chelsea matchwinner Timo Werner appreciates the backing of manager Thomas Tuchel after victory over West Ham.

Werner values the part Tuchel has played in keeping him going in his quest to score more frequently, and the head coach described the striker's performance against the Hammers as "strong" and says that "he needs to keep on scoring and catch the moment".

Werner said: "It is very difficult for a manager to keep believing in you when you as a team always win and as a striker you don't score as many goals as you should do, but he gives me always the trust, he gives me always the opportunity to play and I try to give as much as possible back to him.

"Every goal for every striker makes it a little bit easier. When you score early in the season five, six or seven goals, it brings you through the whole season because it gives you confidence to score the goals when you have a period like me.

"At the beginning of the season when you don't score it gets harder and harder and you have problems with yourself and you have problems sometimes with the ball, but you don't think about scoring and slowly I came to understanding that not only scoring is a main point, a main point is to help the team as much as I can and as long as I have this on my mind I think the other things will come back."
