Chelsea keeper Kepa insists he no regrets over Zidane snub

Chelsea goalkeeper Kepa Arrizabalaga insists he has no regrets missing a move to Real Madrid.

Six months before he signed for Chelsea, the then Athletic Bilbao keeper was all set to join Real - only for coach Zinedine Zidane to block the deal.

Kepa told Marca: "The end of my contract with Athletic was coming and several important clubs were interested. It was a compliment that teams aspiring to win the world's top titles were interested in me.

"But things happen when they have to happen. At that time I did not move and I am comfortable with the decision I made, renewing with Athletic finally."

It was suggested Zidane didn't rate Kepa's aerial game.

He added: "I don't know. I never heard that theory. I don't know, of course."

Kepa also said: "It (the rejection) helped me a lot to mature. It is true that I was quite introverted, took refuge in myself and did not want to listen or talk too much. Even my grandmother told me that she saw me more in the press than in person."
