Chelsea keeper Cech on playing comeback: I needed 20mins to re-adjust

Chelsea goalkeeper Petr Cech was happy with his playing return in Monday night's Premier League 2 clash with Tottenham.

Cech has come out of retirement, two years after hanging up the gloves, and conceded twice in the 3-2 win.

Now 38, Cech retired at the end of the 2018/19 season while with Arsenal and has since successfully taken up a role as technical adviser back at Chelsea, with a brief that includes scouting and coaching.

He has been training with Chelsea's first team this season and was registered by manager Frank Lampard for the Premier League as an emergency option. As he explained yesterday, Monday's return to action was made with a view to being match ready in the event he is needed in the coming weeks.

He told Sport Invest via Sport-Express: "The first 20 minutes I was looking for my usual movements. Gradually I adapted to the pace of the game and generally felt fine.

"I've been working hard for the last months. However, I hadn't played for a year and a half, so I was a little nervous before the match.

"With the help of this match, I was able to return to my previous state, which was necessary if I was suddenly needed in the Premier League."

Currently, Cech is considered fifth choice goalkeeper behind Edouard Mendy, Kepa Arrizabalaga, Willy Caballero and Karlo Ziger.
