Chelsea are convinced they've won the race for Southampton defender Virgil van Dijk.

The Sun says Chelsea are confident they have won the race to land £50million-rated Van Dijk.

The Saints have been tempted after Chelsea threw young Denmark centre-half Andreas Christensen into the deal for the Dutch powerhouse.

Christensen, 21, is in his second season on loan with Borussia Monchengladbach but returns to Chelsea this month.

Arsenal have lost out on Van Dijk — despite offering to make him one of their highest-paid players.

Van Dijk has been tempted with more than £150,000 a week at the Emirates but he prefers a move to Stamford Bridge.

He is still recovering from an ankle injury sustained in January and is unlikely to play again this season.
