Chelsea icon Zola leaves Birmingham…after just 2 wins!

Gianfranco Zola has resigned from his role as Birmingham City manager.

The Brum have confirmed that the Italian has stepped down from the post he has held since replacing Gary Rowett in December.

Zola has made the decision following Monday's 2-0 loss to Burton Albion which has left the club sitting just three points above the relegation zone.

The Chelsea legend told the press: "I am sorry because obviously I came here with huge expectations, from the club and myself.

"Results unfortunately haven't been good and I take full responsibility for that. I am the first one to be disappointed with the results.

"It's not that I like quitting but I feel like this club deserves the best chance. If I feel like I cannot help these players why stay - it's better that I leave and let somebody else do that."

During his time at St Andrew's, Zola led Birmingham to just two wins and 13 points from his 22 Championship matches in charge.
