talkSPORT is among many outlets who are of the belief that the former Chelsea star will sign a short-term deal with City as part of his contract with MLS expansion franchise New York City FC who are owned by the Etihad Stadium outfit.
36-year old England midfielder Lampard signed with New York last month but the new club will not begin MLS play until the 2015 season which kicks off in March next year.
It is believed that Lampard has turned down the opportunity to play with City's Australian affiliate, Melbourne City of the A-League, and will instead spend the first half of the 2014/15 Premier League campaign with the reigning English champions.
