Chelsea grabbed a 1-0 win at Blackburn Rovers in the first-leg of their FA Youth Cup semifinal last night.
The holders grabbed the only goal of the game midway through the first half as Fikayo Tomori headed in his second goal of the Cup campaign.
The two sides meet again in three weeks' time at Stamford Bridge, when the Blues will be looking to progress to a fifth consecutive Youth Cup final.
Chelsea coach Joe Edwards told the club's website afterwards: "We controlled the game straight away, made the pitch big and nullified what they like to do. Our final pass didn't quite come off but Fikayo pops up with another goal from a set-play and he's scored a few goals now since Christmas.
"I thought him and Jake Clarke-Salter were outstanding; they had to deal with a lot of aerial balls, particularly in the second half, and I think both tonight and against Ajax they have both dealt with that really well. The whole team put in a shift and, even though we lost a bit of energy in the latter stages, we continued to dig in and defend. It's certainly a result we're happy to take back to the Bridge."
