Chelsea drop points as Rice admits West Ham frustration

Chelsea dropped their first points of the season after being held 0-0 at West Ham today.

The visitors enjoyed 71% of possession at London Stadium, but failed to score for the first time this season.

Despite seeing little of the ball, West Ham had the best chance to win it as Robert Snodgrass picked out the unmarked Andriy Yarmolenko on 78 minutes, but the Ukrainian sent his header wide.

Second-half substitute Alvaro Morata almost made an instant impact for Chelsea, but he was unable to steer the ball past Lukasz Fabianski from close range, as Chelsea missed their chance to keep pace with league leaders Liverpool.

Maurizio Sarri's men remain third after Manchester City won on Saturday, while Manuel Pellegrini's side stay in 17th.

Declan Rice, who featured in West Ham's midfield, said: "I think the chances we missed in the first half and Andriy Yarmolenko's header would have been a crucial turning point, so we feel like it was two points dropped, but we all stuck to our jobs and gave 100%."

On playing in the midfield, he added: "You have to put in so much hard work because they play with so many midfielders. It is not just Kante, Kovacic, and Jorginho. Eden Hazard likes to come into the pocket so it was a tough game.

"We took a lot of confidence from last week and we are happy with that point today. To get a point is better than a defeat, we lost against Wolves in our last home game which was tough to take, but or fans were like a 12th man."
