Chelsea director Granovskaia makes promise to Giroud over future

Chelsea chief Marina Granovskaia has made a promise to French striker Olivier Giroud about his future.

The veteran centre-forward is currently on international duty with his country ahead of Euro 2020.

The 34-year-old signed a contract extension before the end of his existing deal, which was set to expire at the end of the season.

Calciomercato says Giroud was promised by Granovskaia that if he did renew, he would be free to leave the club for a modest fee.

Chelsea secured him to a new deal to protect his value to them as an asset, not to deny Giroud the chance at regular football somewhere else in the 2021-2022 season.
