Chelsea director Granovskaia delighted Christensen has proven them right

Chelsea director Marina Granovskaia says Andreas Christensen's time at Borussia Monchengladbach proved he was ready to return to the club.

Gladbach wanted to make the Dane's two-year loan deal permanent at the end of last season. But the Blues welcomed the 21-year-old back, and his performances for Antonio Conte's side this season has proved it was the right decision.

Chelsea rewarded Christensen his efforts by extending his contract until 2022, and speaking at the announcement, Granovskaia revealed how the club's plan for the centre-back has come to fruition.

"This contract is reward for the excellent form Andreas has shown in the first half of the season," said Granovskaia.

"He showed immense potential when he signed for Chelsea in 2012 and is now enjoying the benefits of the dedication and professionalism he has shown since.

"After two seasons on loan in Germany we were convinced he was ready to be a part of the squad this season and he has grasped the opportunity with both hands.

"We are delighted he has chosen to commit his future to Chelsea and we look forward to four-and-a-half more successful years with Andreas at the club."
