David Luiz believes it is vital for Chelsea to field English players.

England internationals Ross Barkley, Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Callum Hudson-Odoi all featured for the first-team last season.

And veteran Luiz hopes they can follow in the footsteps of past club legends.

"The new generation is adapted for modern football. They already grew up learning about this kind of football, with the strength, quality, speed," Luiz said.

"First I'm happy because I understand teams like Chelsea need their English players, their English boys to play for us again, and we are trying to build legends for them again, like Lampard was, like Terry was."
