Chelsea defender Koulibaly in Diop tribute as winning Senegal captain

Chelsea defender Kalidou Koulibaly was seen wearing a unique captain's armband for Senegal against Ecuador on Tuesday.

The centre-back, who scored the winner for his nation to take them into the Round of 16, had an armband with the number 19 on it.

The armband was made specially to mark the anniversary of the death of former Senegal star Papa Bouba Diop.

The ex-Senegal international, who scored during the 2002 World Cup, passed away in November 2020 at age 42 due to a serious illness.

Senegal fans also paid tribute to Diop during the game with a banner that read "True lion never dies."

Many fans were also wearing the no.19 shirt on their backs while at the game.
