Chelsea are confident they have a deal for Rennes goalkeeper Edouard Mendy.
The Blues failed with an offer of €18m for Mendy last week.
However, the Guardian says the Blues have now submitted an improved bid of €21m to Rennes and there is a confidence that will be enough.
Mendy, 28, will arrive in time for the opening of the new season if paperwork can be settled in the coming days.
The deal has been driven by Chelsea technical chief Petr Cech, a former Rennes goalkeeper.
