Chelsea advisor Cech using Rennes relationship to push Mendy deal

Chelsea are close to signing a new goalkeeper to supplant Kepa Arrizabalaga.

The Blues have made a lot of moves in the transfer window, but none could be more important than signing a shot stopper.

Kepa has struggled in the Premier League, especially last season, and improving their rear guard is vital for Chelsea.

And the Sunday Mirror - via the Express - says Edouard Mendy from Rennes is the man Frank Lampard wants to sign.

He will be the first choice if he arrives.

The Blues wanted Jan Oblak from Atletico Madrid, but he would cost 100 million euros, and they have already made several big money signings this summer.

The source claims the Blues could sign Mendy for £18 million, especially as former keeper Petr Cech is working hard on the deal.

Cech, who now works as an advisor at Chelsea, spent two years at Rennes before moving to Stamford Bridge.
