Chelsea close to deal for Shakhtar Donetsk star Srna

Chelsea hope to close a £20 million deal for Shakhtar Donetsk wing-back Darijo Srna before the weekend.

The London Evening Standard says Shakhtar are willing to sell because Srna has only one year left on his contract and the player is understood to be keen to move to the Premier League champions.

It is believed Chelsea are prepared to pay Srna up to £79,000-a-week for his signature and will make room for him in the squad by selling of Juliano Belletti and Paulo Ferreira.

Ancelotti sees Srna as a useful addition because he can not only play at right back, but also at right midfield, where the club have little competition for places.

Talks have been delayed while Srna has been away with the Croatian national team, but he hopes to meet with Shakhtar's president Rinat Akhmetov this week to discuss the situation.

A source close to the player believes that as things stand the chances of him moving to Chelsea is 80-20 in their favour, but Real Madrid and Barcelona are also monitoring the situation.
