Chelsea choose to put Olivier Giroud up for sale

Chelsea have decided to put Olivier Giroud up for sale next month.

The Daily Mail says Chelsea will listen to offers for Giroud in January, leaving Michy Batshuayi as the club's only like-for-like cover for Tammy Abraham if their transfer ban is not lifted.

Head coach Frank Lampard also believes he can use Christian Pulisic as a false nine - with the American more of a mobile option than World Cup winner Giroud in his system.

On Saturday Giroud, whose contract expires at the end of the season, made his first start for the club since August 18 but struggled to have an impact against West Ham.

He is understood to be open to leaving, too, given the 33-year-old Frenchman needs game time ahead of the summer's European Championship. Italy's Serie A is a potential destination.
