Chelsea chief Cech key to Werner transfer coup

Chelsea technical chief Petr Cech played a key role in their expected swoop for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Cech made an undercover trip to Germany to help Chelsea win the race for Timo Werner's signature, according to reports.

The Telegraph reports manager Frank Lampard and Cech held a meeting with Werner while in Germany to lay out their plan for the forward.

The German was said to have been left thoroughly impressed by their vision, and with a full understanding of how he'd fit in at Stamford Bridge.

Lampard brought Cech with him on the trip because the former Chelsea and Arsenal goalkeeper is fluent in German.

Cech was able to thrash out the finer details with Werner's agent and the footballer's father, as neither are fluent in English.
