Chelsea captain John Terry is confident Ruben Loftus-Cheek will learn from the blast he copped from Jose Mourinho this week.
The midfielder was slammed by Mourinho for what he deemed an unacceptable performance in a friendly against Sydney FC on Tuesday.
Terry said: "He played a couple of games at the end of the season, but for him to make the next step and become a regular it doesn't happen easily so it will be hard work for him.
"To be in this team you have to firstly be very good and then mentally be very strong.
"The manager picks his times when he digs people out, that'll be part of his learning curve and he's got the summer to think about it now.
"He's a young boy and you have to take it on the chin."
He added: "We've all been there as players. You look for your friends and people around you to support you. "But more importantly it's got to come from you. He is a great boy and got unbelievable talent and he needs to kick on now and I'm sure he will.
"But I will have a quiet word as his club captain, for sure."
