Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta to keep Barcelona waiting

Chelsea captain Cesar Azpilicueta won't rush into his next move.

Reports in Spain on Tuesday said the player had agreed to join Barcelona but the defender - who could have moved to the Camp Nou this month but refused to entertain the idea of leaving Chelsea mid-season - wants to speak to the club again before finalising his plans.

Barcelona still look favourites to land him because of the London club's policy of only offering players over 31 one-year renewals, says the Daily Mail.

The Catalan club will give the Spanish international a two-year contract with the option of a third year if he joins this summer.

But Azpilicueta has strong ties with Chelsea, the club he joined in 2012 from Marseille.

He has three children all born in England and his wife and family are settled in London.

It's why he ruled out the possibility of joining at the start of the year when Xavi personally requested the club bring him in to bolster Barcelona's leaky defence.
