Chelsea boss Tuchel plays down Taylor controversy ahead of Brentford clash

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel insists he has no problem with ref Anthony Taylor being in charge of their clash with Brentford.

Tuchel insists he has faith in Anthony Taylor as the referee takes charge of Chelsea just seven weeks after sparking an angry reaction with a red card for Reece James at Liverpool.

The dismissal of James for handling on the goal line, when a shot deflected off his leg and onto his arm, prompted Blues fans to launch an online petition to get him banned from officiating their games.

More than 80,000 signed it but Tuchel steered clear of conspiracy theories.

"I trust in the referees," said the Chelsea boss. "And I trust in Anthony Taylor that he will try to have the best performance.

"We cannot get lost in ideas that there is something behind it. We have to make ourselves free from this and do what we need to do to be able to win this match.

"Do we need a top referee? Yes. Do we need good decisions from VAR or maybe no decisions from VAR? Yes.

"Do we need a little bit of luck? Yes. And hopefully we can turn things around with Anthony Taylor."
