Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has been speaking with Germany coach Hansi Flick about Kai Havertz's role.
The German has played in four different positions over the last two seasons, since joining the Blues from Bundesliga side Bayer Leverkusen for £72million.
His most impressive performances have come in one of the two positions behind the lone striker in Tuchel's 3-4-2-1 system.
He scored five goals and notched six assists from that position last season, helping Chelsea to a top four finish.
And it is where he has started the current campaign, with Romelu Lukaku now spearheading the Blues' attack ahead of the attacking-midfield pairing of Mason Mount and Havertz.
And Flick revealed: “I do believe that Kai can play in the centre.
“I exchanged ideas with Thomas Tuchel. I can well imagine that he can also play in the centre."
