Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is delighted with their deal for RB Leipzig striker Timo Werner.

Werner had been previously pursued by Liverpool and at one point suggested he would fit in well working under Jurgen Klopp in the Premier League.

The 24-year-old is poised to arrive at Stamford Bridge however with Lampard impressed with his enthusiasm over his plans in west London.

"I had good conversations with Timo personally," Lampard said at a virtual press conference on Friday.

"He understands our project and what we want to do as a club. We're pleased he's decided to come to us and look forward to him joining next season."

Werner has signed a five-year deal with the Blues on a contract worth around £200,000 a week.
