Chelsea boss Frank Lampard urged his players to stay positive after defeat in the FA Cup final to Arsenal.

Little was expected of the Blues at the start of the season given Lampard's lack of top-flight managerial experience and the large number of youngsters he had to field because of his club's transfer ban.

But they proved the doubters wrong by qualifying for next season's Champions League and ended the season with a runners-up medal in the Cup.

He said: “We shouldn't become too stuck on this defeat.

“We need to look at the season as a whole and what we have managed to do to come where we've come in the league.

“This would have been the icing on the cake but it wasn't to be.

“We didn't play well enough, we know that in our dressing-room."
