Chelsea boss Lampard praises Abraham, Batshuayi after friendly win

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is pleased with his yung strikers after their friendly win St Patrick's Athletic/

Lampard was full of praise for Tammy Abraham and Michy Batshuayi after his first win as Chelsea boss, despite neither striker scoring in their 4-0 over St Patrick's Athletic in Dublin.

Goals from Mason Mount – who worked under Lampard at Derby County – and Emerson Palmieri saw Chelsea take a two-goal lead at half-time, before Olivier Giroud – operating as a lone forward after the break – scored a brace to settle the game.

“I thought Tammy (Abraham), in the first half, alongside Michy (Batshuayi) was very good," said Lampard in an interview to Chelsea TV. “Between the two of them they have shown exactly what it is I want. Energy off the ball as well as on the ball and quality.

“A big element was the performance, particularly in the first half. And the negative was we should have scored more goals!

“I thought that some of our build-up play and combinations from midfield in and around their box was fantastic. It was really enjoyable to watch, particularly the first half, so there's positives.

“These games are important to win for the feeling but they're also important for the lads to get every little bit out of it physically and how hard they work."
