Chelsea boss Lampard: Man City, NYCFC experience crucial

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard says leaving the club was good for his management career.

Lampard spent time with Manchester City and New York City FC before hanging up the boots.

He told Sky Sports: "I always thought I would finish my career at Chelsea but when it was decided I would be moving on because they wanted to make changes in the squad, that obviously opened up a different path for me.

"Looking back, that was positive because I had two big experiences - one in Manchester for a year and another in New York for 18 months.

"I formed a lot of my ideas about how I wanted to manage in those later years of my career because you think more as you get older and you assess more. When I watched football, I would watch managers intently to see the things that are important to them. I have huge respect for Pep Guardiola, Jurgen Klopp and Mauricio Pochettino now."
