Chelsea boss Lampard confident Gilmour will shake-off knee setback: What I told him...

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is confident Billy Gilmour will shake off his knee surgery.

And Lampard has revealed he has spoken to Gimour about his own experience of suffering a serious injury as a teenager as the 19-year-old prepares for a four-month lay-off.

Gilmour has been ruled out of the rest of the season and will miss the start of next season after having an operation on Friday after damaging his meniscus against Crystal Palace.

Lampard said: “I got him in on Thursday morning and spoke to him. He has got a tight-knit family, he is a good old Scottish lad and he is tough. Do not be tricked by the baby face because there is a tough nature to him.

“I remember being out myself at around 17 or 18 with a broken leg for about three months which went over a summer as well. It is part of the process unfortunately.

“We have got the best surgeon on it. The things that are behind Billy are that he is young, he has an incredible attitude and build himself to hopefully get over it as quickly as possible.

“It happened in the game. I saw it happen midway through the first half, it was completely accidental as he crouched down, I saw his reaction as he got up with a bit of a grimace. He has damaged his meniscus in his knee."
