Chelsea approach Palmeiras for Paraguay captain Gustavo Gomez

Chelsea are watching Palmeiras captain Gustavo Gomez.

La Nacion says the new European champions have sounded out Palmeiras over a potential deal for the Paraguay captain, who is gearing up for their first Copa America outing against Bolivia on June 15.

Blues officials and Tuchel therefore may have one eye on this summer's tournament, which is being held out in Brazil.

Palmeiras are understood to have told them they will need to fork out 'millions' to prise Gomez away from Allianz Parque.

Gomez has spent the last three years at Palmeiras after initially joining on loan from AC Milan.

Following two years on loan with the Brazilian club, he made the move permanent in 2019 and has since racked up a total of 118 appearances, scoring 15 goals.
