Che Adams: Southampton winner just pure instinct

Che Adams says his winning wonder goal against Manchester City was all instinct.

The summer singing from Birmingham City finally got his first goal for Southampton, which was enough to seal a 1-0 victory over Pep Guardiola's side.

Speaking about the strike, Adams told the club's website: "Obviously I'm buzzing, all the lads have helped me along the way. Everyone has kept faith in me including the fans, the staff, the players so I'm just delighted.

"It was instinctive like you said but we know Man City are a high [defensive] team, they like to keep high and so does the goalkeeper so when the opportunity came up, I just took it.

"There was no hesitation at all if I'm honest. As soon as I looked up I knew what I was going to do. I thought it was going to go over but all that mattered is that we got the three points."

Adams added: "It means the world to me [the players celebrating together]. It's been a hard couple of months, but we got there today.

"Obviously from last week the lads were on their knees begging me to score but it went in this week and it's paid off.

"It's been a season of learning with the strikers that are up there. It's hard to get a place but we just keep working every day and slowly and gradually we'll get there."
