Reading boss Steve Coppell has slammed the system under which Premier League referees are "cherry picked" to handle specific games in the Championship, reports The Mirror. "The problem is that these referees are cherry picked from the Premier League and they haven't done their homework on Championship players and their styles," says Coppell.
"I have looked at the video and spoken to several different people about the Bikey incident and can't find anyone who agrees that it merited a straight red. At half-time I asked the referee why. He told me a punch had been thrown.
"When we received the report it claimed he led with a stiff forearm. But it was just a perfectly normal Bikey jump. It would be nice if referees could sometimes admit they have made a mistake without them being punished."
