CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WRAP: Man City progress, Chelsea win again as Barcelona get better of PSG

Manchester City have pulled off a 2-0 win over AS Roma in Italy to book their spot in the Round of 16 in the UEFA Champions League.

Manuel Pellegrini's City side required victory at the Stadio Olimpico to finish second behind group winners Bayern Munich and produced exactly that courtesy of second-half goals from Samir Nasri and Pablo Zabaleta.

The opener came on the hour-mark when Nasri fired home a stunning attempt from range before Zabaleta's 86th-minute goal assured City a path through to the knockout phase of Europe's premier club competition.

The reigning Premier League champions will join German giants Bayern in the final 16 after Pep Guardiola's men accounted for CSKA Moscow 3-0 at home thanks to goals from Thomas Muller (penalty), Sebastian Rode and Mario Gotze.

In Group G, Chelsea finished six points clear on top after beating Sporting Lisbon 3-1 at Stamford Bridge with early goals from Cesc Fabregas (penalty) and Andre Schurrle setting up the triumph before John Obi Mikel scored his very first goal in the Champions League.

Jose Mourinho's Blues will be joined by Bundesliga club Schalke in the next phase after they edged NK Maribor 1-0 in Slovenia while Sporting will drop into the Europa League Round of 32.

Group F's heavyweight match-up saw Barcelona see off Paris Saint-Germain 3-1 at Camp Nou despite the Catalan club falling behind early on.

Zlatan Ibrahimovic netted for PSG against his former club in the 15th minute before Lionel Messi levelled five minutes later prior to Neymar's go-ahead goal just before the break.

Luis Suarez then scored his second European goal for the Blaugrana with just over 20 minutes remaining to give Luis Enrique's side top billing in the group, two points ahead of PSG, who suffered the first defeat of the group stage.

Dutch powerhouse Ajax ended their campaign strongly with a 4-0 home win over APORL Nicosia with thanks from a Lasse Schone double which sees them qualify for the Europa League.

And in Group H, FC Porto drew 1-1 with Shakhtar Donetsk at home to finish five points clear of the second-placed Ukrainian side while Athletic Bilbao defeated BATE Borisov 2-0.

The draw for the Champions League Round of 16 will take place in Nyon, Switzerland on Monday, December 15.

Two seeding pots of group winners and runners-up will be formed with no team able to play a club from their group or any side from their own association.

Seeded group winners will be away in the round of 16 first legs on 17/18 and 25/26 February and at home in the return matches on 10/11 and 17/18 March.
