CHAMPIONS LEAGUE WRAP: Anderlecht force Arsenal draw as Real Madrid edge Liverpool

Matchday 4 of the 2014/15 UEFA Champions League season got underway on Tuesday night with eight fixtures taking place around Europe.

In a thrilling encounter in London, Belgian side Anderlecht forced a 3-3 draw with Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium after trailing by three goals early in the second half.

The Gunners took the lead in the 25th minute of the Group D clash thanks to Mikel Arteta's penalty before Alexis Sanchez added a second four minutes with a stunning volley after his free-kick was deflected back into his path.

Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain had Arsenal in pole position with a well-taken third from an angle in the 58th minute but Anderlecht struck back three times in the final half-hour mark with Anthony Vanden Borre netting a brace before Aleksandar Mitrovic fired home a late header to grab a share of the points.

In the other Group D match-up, Borussia Dortmund continued their European dominance this season with a comfortable 4-1 home win over Galatasaray to move up 12 points from four matches, five clear of second-placed Arsenal who are five ahead of Anderlecht in third.

Reigning champions Real Madrid edged Liverpool 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu thanks to Karim Benzema's 27th-minute close-range finish from a defence-splitting Marcelo cross to move to 12 points, six ahead of Swiss champions FC Basel, who hammered Bulgarian minnows Ludogorets Razgrad 4-0.

Liverpool are now in danger of missing qualification to the Round of 16 as they sit on just three points from four outings to find themselves three behind Basel with two group fixtures remaining.

In Group A, Juventus avoided a potential disaster result by coming from 2-1 down to beat Olympiakos 3-2 after they earlier took the lead.

The Bianconeri are now six points from four matches, which has them three points behind leaders Atletico Madrid following their 2-0 win over Malmo in Sweden.

And in Group C, a Son Heung-min double guided Bayer Leverkusen to a 2-1 away win at Zenit Saint Petersburg which allowed them to move four points clear of second-placed Monaco who lost 1-0 at Benfica.

Wednesday night sees Manchester City host CSKAS Moscow, Bayern Munich at home to AS Roma and Barcelona away at Ajax.
