CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Juventus easily brush aside Man Utd

Juventus eased to a 1-0 victory over struggling Man Utd in a game the Italians dominated as the home side were unable to find any pace or creativity in their game.

The first half ended with Juventus deservedly ahead following a 17th minute goal by Paulo Dybala. In fact had the Italians taken all of their chances they could have gone in at the break with a more comfortable lead such was their dominance.

Utd looked second best as they struggled to inject any pace into their game and rarely troubled the Juventus defence. The visitors looked more mobile and quick and it was no surprise when they took the lead.

Dybala had already sent a header over whilst unmarked and when Ronaldo on his return to Old Trafford sent over a cross Chris Smalling and Juan Cuadrado challenged for the ball which broke kindly for the Argentinean to finish from close range.

The travelling Juve fans went wild and continued to make most of the noise off the pitch as their team were doing on it. Ronaldo sent in a wicked free kick which David de Gea could only parry and then the Spanish keeper had to react quickly to Blaine Matuidi's follow up effort.

Every time Juventus broke quickly Utd looked shaky at the back and whilst the crowd tried to lift the home team it was the visitors who were always in control.

And so it continued at the start of the second half as Ronaldo hit a fierce shot which De Gea palmed over. Utd had won all their last five home matches against Italian visitors including the last three meeting with Juventus but they rarely looked like turning this game around.

The home side tried to up the tempo but it was more frenetic than measured and the Italians looked comfortable at the back.

Yet amazingly Utd almost levelled as Paul Pogba hammered a low shot which hit the post and then rebounded against the diving Wojciech Szczesny and then to safety.

The expected late onslaught from from the home side never happened and the Bianconeri comfortable held on and are still to concede in Group H. And the Juventus fans even found time to taunt Jose Mourinho the Utd boss.
