CHAMPIONS LEAGUE - GROUP G: Chelsea go top after eventual coast in Tel Aviv

Chelsea scored three late goals to eventually overcome Maccabi Tel Aviv 4-0 in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

The Blues went top of Group G with their third win of the group stage after Porto were beaten 2-0 at home by Dynamo Kyiv.

Jose Mourinho's men sit on 10 points with one fixture remaining and will only have to avoid defeat to Porto at Stamford Bridge on December 9 to book their place in the Round of 16.

Defender Gary Cahill opened the scoring for Chelsea in the 20th minute when his initial header from Willian's corner was tipped onto the post by Tel Aviv keeper Predrag Rajkovic before rebounding kindly for the Blues centre-half to slot home from close range.

Former Blues defender Tal Ben Haim was sent off late in the first half for a mistimed kick on Diego Costa, reducing Maccabi to ten men, before the visitors took advantage of their extra personnel by adding a second goal in the 73rd minute through Willian who produced a sublime free-kick from distance.

Abdul Baba Rahman then provided a devastating cross from the left allowing Oscar to power home a header for Chelsea's third in the 77th minute prior to Kurt Zouma's headed injury-time fourth which came from Oscar's outswinging corner.

The dampener on the night for the West London club was the injury to captain John Terry, who required a stretcher to leave the pitch, and a visible exchange of words between manager Mourinho and fiery striker Costa at half-time.

The win backed up Chelsea's Premier League triumph over Norwich City on the weekend, giving them back-to-back triumphs for the first time in two months, putting them in a strong position to move through to the knockout stages of Europe's premier club competition.
