Cesc faces Arsenal captaincy axing

Arsenal midfielder Cesc Fabregas faces being dumped as captain.

The Daily Star Sunday says Barcelona president Sandro Rosell is adamant the European champions will not raise their bid and there is a real chance Fabregas will be forced to stay at The Emirates.

And if he does, he could well lose the skipper's armband to striker Robin van Persie or fit-again central defender Thomas Vermaelen.

"Cesc conducts himself with total professionalism in everything he does for Arsenal," said an Emirates source. "But with all that has gone on there is a school of thought that he might not be the ideal candidate to remain as captain.

"Both Robin and Thomas have leadership attributes and the armband could well end up with one of them."
