Celtic set to land Hibernian striker Stokes

Celtic and Hibernian have agreed a fee for the transfer of Anthony Stokes to Parkhead, Sky Sports News reports. Despite talks being at an advanced stage on Sunday, Stokes turned out in Hibernian's 1-0 defeat to St Mirren in the Scottish Premier League.

Stokes, who grabbed 23 goals last season, has made his name in the Scottish top flight, regularly scoring against the Old Firm during spells with Falkirk and Easter Road.

Hibs boss John Hughes reluctantly accepts the Buddies' defeat could well be Stokes' last for the club and he was disappointed the player could not make a greater impact on his farewell.

"I felt he was poor, but I can understand it with everything on his mind," said Hughes.

"Sometimes you play on emotions and if it was to be his last game I thought he might go out with a bang, but it didn't materialise."
