Celtic have confirmed that striker Carlton Cole has been released after only eight months with the club.

The former West Ham United striker, who signed for Hoops as a free agent in October, could manage only four appearances for the Glasgow giants and has subsequently been cut by new manager Brendan Rodgers.

In a statement, the Bhoys said: "Celtic Football Club today confirmed that Carlton Cole is leaving the club.

"Everyone at Celtic would sincerely like to wish Carlton the very best of success for the future."
