Celtic play down pursuit of Liverpool midfielder Allen

Joe Allen's agent Glenn Corcoran has played down talks that the midfielder will be heading to Celtic.

Brendan Rodgers has recently been appointed as the manager of Celtic and it has been widely reported that the Northern Irishman will look to make his former Swansea City and Reds star Allen one of his first signings for the Scottish side.

However, Allen's representative has gone on play down talks of the Welshman making a move to Parkhead by stating that Celtic would simply not be ready to pay his client's sizeable transfer fee, as well as wages.

He said: "This is the first I have heard of this. Joe has a year left on his contract at Liverpool and nobody has spoken to us about extending that.

"The club have not spoken to us about selling him either.

"I haven't given any thought whatsoever to it with regards to Celtic or any club. If Liverpool were willing to sell – and that is a big 'if' because I've not had that conversation with the club – they would ask for too much money for him.

"I don't know if Celtic at this moment would be willing to spend that sort of money and the wages would also be a massive issue."
