Scottish giants Celtic yesterday defeated a League of Ireland XI 5-0 in the Dublin Super Cup. The Hoops took their time to get into the contest after losing to Italian powerhouse Inter Milan 2-0 on Saturday but in the 38th minute, Anthony Stokes needed just one touch to slide the ball home from a Daryl Murphy pass to give his side the lead.
The Irish outfit had their chances to equalise but when Murphy converted from the penalty spot in the 70th minute, it seemed as it were all over.
The match was certainly put to bed in the final seven minutes when Gary Hooper scored twice in quick succession before Stokes put the finishing touches on with a well-struck left-footer in the 87th minute.
Following Celtic's win, Manchester City took out the Dublin Super Cup with a 3-0 win over Inter thanks to goals from Mario Balotelli, Edin Dzeko and Adam Johnson.
