Catania arrests over allegations of Serie B match fixing

Catania president Antonino Pulvirenti is one of seven people arrested over suspected match-fixing involving some of the Italian Serie B club's matches, reports BBC Sport.

Pulvirenti's deputy, Pablo Cosentino, and former director of sport Daniele Delli Carri were also arrested.

The seven people arrested are accused of committing "fraud in sporting competition", says Catania police.

The authorities have not released details of the matches on which the investigation is focused.

Catania's public prosecutor Giovanni Salvi said: "At least five games, maybe six, were fixed and sums of money given to players.

"Other individuals are being investigated but they will remain unnamed."
