Cascarino stunned Evra chose to take on Marseille fans

Former Marseille striker Tony Cascarino says Patrice Evra is mad taking on their fans.

On Thursday, Evra lashed out on a fan with a kung-fu style kick before their Europa League clash against Vitoria.

Ex-Chelsea striker Cascarino believes the ultra-passionate fans at the Stade Velodrome simply won't let the former Manchester United captain pull on a shirt again.

He wrote in The Times: "I don't know what was said to prompt Patrice Evra into kicking a supporter of his own club, but I would be surprised if he pulls on a Marseilles shirt again.

"This is a unique club where fans have a strong influence, as I discovered during my two years playing there. Attacking one of them, whatever the provocation, takes Evra past the point of no return.

"These are people who, in many cases, have little money, yet follow Marseilles all over the country. Their club means everything to them.

"If the club is unique, then so is Marseilles as a city. It is like its own little country. There was a feeling of us against the rest, whether in football or in life in general. Given that background, attacking a Marseilles supporter is the worst thing Evra could have done."
