Newcastle United No2 John Carver fancies a new contract after guiding them to victory over Crystal Palace.
The assistant manager could hardly keep the smile off his face after such a welcome win.
When it was put to him that Ashley was there to see the game, Carver said: "It was nice. I'll be asking him for a new contract I think! It's good that he's shown his support.
"I take credit for everything today! We (he and Pardew) had a number of conversations, just before half-time and as the game was going on.
"But in fairness, the manager never once said to me 'we should do this' or 'we should do that'. He always gave me an option, some of them we used and some of them we didn't.
"But like he said during the week, he trusts people and he trusts the staff, and because we're in the stadium, we can get a sense for a feel of what's going on and we have to make the final decision, so it works both ways."
