Carrick, Schweinsteiger competition bringing out best in Man Utd midfielder Herrera

Ander Herrera says he is benefiting greatly from competing with quality players for a starting spot at Manchester United.

The 26-year-old midfielder started against Everton at Goodison Park on Saturday and scored once and provided an assist in United's 3-0 win.

Herrera's performance, and that of Morgan Schneiderlin, were two of many bright spots for Louis van Gaal's Red Devils side and the Spanish talent admits he and the Frenchman are only getting better as they continue to learn plenty from working alongside the likes of Carrick and Bastian Schweinsteiger.

"You take advantage of that," he told the club's official website.

"When you play with the best players you take advantage of that like we did. This is good for me, good for the club. I always think the same way. When the club signs top players you are going to take advantage of that and that is what I'm doing.

"You have [Schweinsteiger] and also Michael Carrick and they are very experienced guys. I think Morgan and me can learn a lot from them. I think we were very comfy and when Michael came in also the same.

"We are similar players. We understand football the same way."
