Carrick disappointed by Man Utd - ‘It’s just not good enough’

Veteran midfielder Michael Carrick admitted Manchester United were not up to it in the wake of their 2-1 Europa League loss to FC Midtjylland.

The Red Devils scored first through Memphis Depay but let the home side back into the contest at the MCH Arena in Herning in the Round of 32 first leg.

First it was Carrick's careless pass which allowed Pione Sisto to steal in and fire beyond Sergio Romero before Paul Onuachu slotted home in the 77th minute after winning possession back off Juan Mata in two incidences which should have been avoided by experienced players leading to the 34-year-old's damning analysis of proceedings.

"It's just not good enough, you know, it's not acceptable," said Carrick. "It's got to be a lot better.

"I think we caused a lot of our own problems. We scored a good goal and we haven't played well enough, we didn't really kick on.

"They were there for us to win the game, we should have won that. With a performance and a result like that we're going home very disappointed.

"The only positive is we've got another chance to put it right and to go through. Of course it's not going to be easy but playing at home we still fancy our chances.

"Obviously we've given ourselves a tougher job than we had hoped."
