Tim Krul has defended himself after he was criticised by Jamie Carragher on Sunday.
The Newcastle United goalkeeper was seen joking and laughing with Sunderland's Jermain Defoe in the tunnel at half-time just after the Dutchman was beaten by a stunning volley from the striker.
The goal was enough for the Black Cats to salute 1-0 over the Magpies in the Tyne-Wear derby at the Stadium of Light but the actions of Krul at the break did not sit well with Carragher who suggested on Sky Sports that perhaps the keeper didn't care enough.
But Krul, who has been with the club since 2005, denied those claims by responding to Carragher's negative assessment of him.
"Listen, I'm a Geordie, I've been at this club for 10 years and I'm as hurt as anybody else so whoever wants to put negatives like that on me, it's not justified," he said on Sky Sports.
"I'm going home with a lot of pain in my heart. To see those travelling fans have to travel back to Newcastle without the win again it hurts me as much as them.
"It was a fantastic goal and everybody has to accept that. What I actually told him I probably can't repeat on television because it wasn't a nice gesture. It was more in the region of 'what a lucky guy he is', but with a bit more venom behind it."
