Carlisle United boss Greg Abbott is delighted with their deal for Southampton defender Danny Butterfield.
Last term, the Boston-born full-back made eight appearances, six of which came on loan at Bolton Wanderers.
"He knows the game inside out," Abbott told the club website.
"Danny has played consistently well at a high level. He has that bit of knowledge and experience.
"We invited him up and he has been extremely bright and positive from the moment he got here.
"He's a strong character and he's already fitted in with the group."
