Carew wants Villa future with Houllier

John Carew hopes to have a long-term future at Aston Villa under new gaffer Gerard Houllier despite the Frenchman previously offloading him.

Houllier signed Carew for Lyon from Besiktas in 2005. But the Norwegian striker, 31, struggled for regular games and goals at the French champions.

And he was eventually ditched in a straight swap deal worth just £3.5m for Villa striker Milan Baros in 2007.

Carew has since become a popular figure at Villa Park where his £52,500-a-week contract expires next summer.

His agent Per Flod dismissed rumours of a bust-up at Lyon between Carew and Houllier and insisted the forward is happy to work with him again.

"Managers buy and sell players all the time and John has no problem with him," he said.

"He enjoys playing for Aston Villa and wants to continue to do so."
