Cardiff's Purse cleared for FA Cup final

Cardiff City defender Darren Purse has been cleared to play in the FA Cup final after having a red card overturned on appeal.

The former Birmingham and West Brom man was shown a straight red card late on in Saturday's 3-3 draw at Burnley for a challenge which left Clarets striker Andy Cole needing 10 stitches in a leg wound.

Purse was handed a three-match ban - meaning he would miss the weekend clash with Barnsley, the Wembley final on May 17 and the first game of next season - after his tackle was deemed serious foul play by referee Andy Hall.

But a Football Association of Wales committee decided on Tuesday afternoon to rescind the red card, meaning the 31-year-old is now available to play in the Wembley final.

After the game, Cole described the challenge as among the worst he has received in his career.
