CAPITAL ONE CUP: Rooney, Pereira, Martial on target as Man Utd cruise past Ipswich

Manchester United eased past Championship outfit Ipswich Town to reach the next round of the Capital One Cup with a 3-0 win at Old Trafford.

Captain Wayne Rooney led by example in the 23rd minute with a typical goal, beating two defenders with strength and power to place the ball beyond visiting goalkeeper Bartosz Bialkowski.

The Tractor Boys had their first shot of the game in the late stages of the first half, with Tommy Oar firing on goal from 25 yard, which did not trouble David De Gea.

Teenage midfielder Andreas Periera scored his first goal for the Red Devils with 60 minutes on the clock, expertly curling in a free-kick from range to leave Bialkowski helpless.

And Anthony Martial continued his fine start to his United career by scoring late into stoppage time with another quality finish to secure a 3-0 win for Louis van Gaal's men who ease through to the fourth round ahead of the weekend's Premier League meeting with Sunderland.
