England coach Fabio Capello says Manchester United defender Rio Ferdinand remains his captain.
Liverpool ace Steven Gerrard, 30, led from the front with a fine double as England recovered from 1-0 down to beat Hungary 2-1 at Wembley on Wednesday night.
But Ferdinand, 31, who missed the World Cup with a knee injury, is still coach Fabio Capello's No 1 for the armband - despite Gerrard's heroics.
Capello said: "Why do we have to change? Rio is the captain, Gerrard is the vice-captain. Rio will be fit, we hope shortly, and he will be captain.
"If Rio is not fit, Gerrard will be captain."
