Argentine legend Claudio Caniggia insists Diego Maradona remains a superior player to Barcelona star Lionel Messi.

Caniggia is adamant Messi still isn't at the level of Maradona.

"Messi will never be what Maradona was, they are different players and in different times," said Caniggia.

"Messi is a crack, but the world of football, until now, did not have a player like Maradona, if he wins the World Cup in Russia it will depend on how he wins, if he is the great figure like Diego in 86, many will think he could match him.

"Maradona is the most incredible player I've seen, an extraordinary player who created football. Messi in some ways is more consistent, but what made Maradona nobody does."
